Wandered in here on a Sunday. A subterranean gem. Gorgeous decor. Masterfully made cocktails. For dinner I ate the Carbonara with spring vegetables, which was an unexpectedly delicious twist on the original. Sam, the bartender, was a true comrade in appreciation of food and cocktails, and I enjoyed his insights and recommendations.

Downstairs, below Colt and Gray, lies the chic gem that is Ste Ellie. In using the last of my cocktail passport, the hubs and I ventured to this unassuming little bar below Platte St for one last drink.
SPACE: As we headed down the stairs, winding left in the dimly lit hallway, we were greeted with a HUGE wrap around bar, gorgeous interior and chic décor. Mirrors serve as outer walls, creating the illusion of a larger space, but it's much more intimate than it leads on. We opted for a seat at the bar top and immediately loved the vibes. Modern and classic with a touch of class. However, this place showcases their true badass with their music selection. Gangster rap. My husband and I loved the paradox that created and we felt right at home.
SERVICE: As soon as we took our seats, we were greeted by a friendly bartender, eager to assist us. As the sight of my passport, he brought us the seasonal menu to choose a drink from their extensive menu. He gave great recommendations, crafted the cocktails perfectly and engaged in interesting conversation with us before stamping my passport and handing over our ridiculously inexpensive bill. Totally on point!
SIPS: Onto the drinks! In just looking at this menu online, I fell in LOVE with the names given to each cocktail. Peach Diggity, Nuthin But a G Thang, California Love or This is How we Do It - ANYONE? Total 90's vibez - and my favorite! The passport options were less creative in their names but offered an interesting blend of liquors and juices. I opted for a drink (which name has left my memory) but was light, crisp and served in the most unique glass - a porcelain cat! My husband sipped on a rum flavored drink - which ended up being entirely too rough - was served in a traditional tiki glass which was fun. Each drink is hand crafted and features pretty garnishes and fun glasses to sip out of!
SUSTENANCE: Although we stopped in just after 9pm, we were given the small food menu to peruse. Featuring snacks (fries, fried pickles), small plates (think charcuterie boards and oysters on the half shell) and also large plates (sandwiches and pasta) followed by two dessert options. Everything looked and smelled delicious - instantly making me want to return.
SOCIAL: Happy hour (aka the best hour) runs Tuesday - Saturday from 6-8 pm and all day on Sunday. They frequently have social events, public appearances and special occasions going on - which their social media accounts blast to the interwebz.
Ste Ellie, I LIKE you.
I can't wait to come back! -

Great cocktails and vibe! Been there a few time and will only return for drinks. Dinner entrees were so-so; french fries were subpar and burger and appetizers were just okay.

Located downstairs from Colt and Gray this intimate bar had some pretty delightfully crafted drinks. The service was fast and the bartenders were extremely friendly, knowledgeable, and helpful making recommendations.
I asked for a two-person sized drink and my bartender offered to put it in this fun swan glass and light it on fire with cinnamon!
A cool place to have drinks in group of any size. If you go to Colt and Gray for dinner be sure to stop by downstairs. -

Such a great impromptu date night experience at Ste. Ellie! We sat at the bar and interacted with many great staff members. Each had a recommendation, witticism and friendly demeanor.
I started with a Rye/Yellow Chartreuse/Bitters cocktail ("The Loneliest Monk"?) finished with the "Check Yo Self" ("Before you wreck yourself" - bartender), comprised of gin/apricot liquor, Dolin Blanc, orange bitters. Both were herbaceous, bright and well-mixed.
My husband and I shared the steak frites. The steak was the most tender I've had, paired with a well-cooked and salted broccolini and the perfect crispy-yet-soft frites (they should really consider adding poutine to their menu with these frites as a base). A creamy and tangy béarnaise sauce accompanied.
On a Saturday night at 9pm, the bar and a few tables were full, but it was definitely not packed (which I really appreciate). I'm done with overfilled cocktail bars and loud chatter that can drown out conversation.
This night reminded me how great it can be to have a night out. As newish parents to a 5.5 month old, we don't get out often and I find myself forgetting the joy of a great meal, crafted drink and exceptional service.
